Reader: In chapter 519 of One Piece, you added tone to the title page, right? You painted one title page black too. After looking at the chapter number, I understood why. 519 is the final chapter of Dragon Ball by Akira Toriyama, an author you respect. In other words, that was your way of saying you’d caught up.
Oda: Wow, you figured it out. You’re exactly right. Well, it’s more like a milestone for me than a message. By the way, Dragon Ball only has 42 volumes out, so some people already think I’m way beyond that. But Dragon Ball started off as a humorous comic and only had 15 pages per chapter, while One Piece was a story comic with 19 pages per chapter. So even though we were both in serialization for 12 years, I did 53 volumes. I’m sorry I made you spend so much extra money. I want to wrap up One Piece soon, but I don’t want to abandon the story until I’ve tied up the loose ends. So please be patient with me because i won’t stop until I wrap everything up.

Reader: Oda! My older brother tells me that the comics in Jump magazine run in order of their popularity. Is that true?!
Oda: That’s a good question from a Jump reader. I get these questions quite often. Actually that’s not exactly how it works: The Jump publication’s deputy editor-in-chief chooses the order every week… But of course, the popular ones do have a tendency to run in the front. The vice editor-in-chief promotes certain comics on certain weeks depending on the mood. To be specific, the order is intended to “maximize the enjoyment of the reading public.” But it’s up to you to read it in whatever order you want.
Reader: Sensei, I absolutely must know what the eight members of CP9 looked like as children (especially Lucci). If you don’t mind, would you draw them for me? Please?
Oda: Okay.

Goats are known for eating paper. They’re like, “I’ll eat anything!” and they’ll chew on paper or whatever else comes their way.
There are signs posted at zoos saying, “Don’t feed the goats paper.” If the paper contains chemicals, it upsets the goat’s stomach.

Luffy on the Jan 2010 cover of Japan’s leading men’s fashion magazine, “Men’s Non-No.” The only manga character to have ever done so.
